Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Faithfulness. Who is faithful? Who is most faithful? Who is ALWAYS faithful? Ahh, there is only One, the Lord our God! One of His many great attributes that we could write books on. But we have one book that shows us that He is just that, FAITHFUL. As the hymn goes, “There is no shadow of turning with Thee, Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not, as Thou hast been, Thou forever will be." The faithfulness of God is His sincerity, firmness, and constancy in performing His Word to His people in all times and cases," says the English Puritan John Flavel. He is faithful in all things; He is faithful at all times! This quality of faithfulness is essential to His being, without it He would not be God. Moses describes Him to Israel in Deu.7:9,"Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God."
As we look at what the Word says to us today, test your remembrance on if God has been faithful to you. Has He not provided you with everything you ever needed? Has He ever broken one of His very many great and precious promises to you which are yes and amen in Christ Jesus? Has He ever left you or forsaken you? What would we be without Him? For Psalm 32:8 states, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go, I will counsel you with My eye upon you." For "your steps are established by the Lord, "Psalm 37:23, and "that a man's ways are not in himself, nor is it in man who walks to direct his steps"Jer.10:23, Oh, how faithfully has your God guided you and stood by you in all the perplexing, troublesome, and challenging cases in your life. It was said of Abraham by the Apostle Paul in Romans 4:21,"that being fully assured that what God had promised He was also able to perform."
So how is this faithfulness of God shown in a perfectly, dependable, and reliable way? What sayeth the Scriptures? Will the Lord faithfully forgive us of our sins? Yes, 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins." Will the Lord faithfully call us into fellowship with Christ? Yes, 1 Cor.1:9, "God is faithful through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." Will the Lord be faithful to not give you more than you can bear? Yes, 1 Cor.10:13, "God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able." Will the Lord protect you from the evil one? Yes, 2 Thess.3:3, "The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one." Will the Lord keep us in the living hope we have? Yes, Heb.10:23, "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." Will the Lord always do right concerning us? Yes, 1Pet.4:19, "Those also who suffer according to the will of God, shall entrust their souls to a faithful creator in doing what is right."
In Rev.19:11, His name is called Faithful. "A white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True." English Puritan Thomas Watson, my favorite says, "Here is a safe anchor-hold, He will not alter the thing which is gone forth of His lips. Can we have better security? The whole earth hangs upon the word of God's power, and shall not our faith hang upon the word of God's truth? Where can we rest our faith but upon God's faithfulness? There is nothing else we can believe in but the truth of God." A.W. Pink states, "When we trustfully resign ourselves and all our affairs into God's hands, fully persuaded of His love and faithfulness, the sooner shall we be satisfied with His providences and realize He doeth all things well." And finally, Louis Berkhof states, "The faithfulness of God is of the utmost practical significance to the people of God. It is the ground of their confidence, the foundation of their hope, and the cause of their rejoicing." Keep trusting His word!
