As He Has Promised
Our God is a promise making, promise remembering, always faithful keeper of His promises. There have been many He has made, and none that He hasn't kept. From way back in Genesis 21:1, "The Lord did for Sarah as He had promised." Gen. 50:24, "Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring you up from this land, to the land which He promised on oath to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob." In Romans 4:21, "Abraham was fully assured, that what God had promised, He was able also to perform." With respect to His promises, Abraham did not waver in unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God.
Moses records the words in Numbers 23:19, about the promise keeping attribute, and power He has to keep His promises. When the Almighty speaks, things happen, events take place, and promises are made good. "God is not a man, that He should lie, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" It is a rhetorical question, in which the answer is always surely yes. 2 Corinthians 1:20, "For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes." God's power will always keep God's promises. Though we change and don't always keep our promises, our strong comfort should always rest upon the unchangeableness and character of God. James 1:17, "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow."
As a believer in Christ, being chosen by the Father and being filled with the Holy Spirit, we can truly rest and take comfort in Hebrews 13:5, a verse taken from Deu. 31:6, "He Himself has said, I will never leave you, nor will I ever forsake you." All the omnipotence of the mighty one is for you! If the devil will bring a charge against you, for he is before the throne of God accusing the brethren day and night, but Romans 8:33 says, "Who will bring a charge against God's elect?, God is the One who justifies." We can count on being accused, but no one will make any charge stick, because God is the One who justifies. He has forgiven all our sins, past, present, and future, and no one can pluck us out of His hand. And Philippians1:6, "He who began a good work in us will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ." Though we may stumble and fall, He will not allow your foot to slip, He will guard your going out and your coming in, from this time forth and forever, and if He is for us, whom no one can over come, who could be against us!
The great B.B. Warfield married at the age of 25, in 1876, and on his honeymoon, his wife Annie was struck by lightning and was permanently paralyzed. Warfield for the next 39 years patiently cared for Annie's extraordinary needs, and never left his home for more than two hours at a time for that entire 39 years. He said on his thoughts on Rom. 8:28, "The fundamental thought is the universal government of God, providence. All that comes to you is under His controlling hand. The secondary thought is the favor of God to those who love Him. If He governs all, than nothing but good can befall those to whom He would do good... He will so govern all things that we shall reap only good from all that befall us." There is a man who believes in the promises of God. Hebrews10:23, "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful."
